It has been my priviledge, not only to own most of the material in this exquisite Centenary Edition, but also to have met and had lunch with Kathleen Ferrier's sister, Winifred (who, incidentally, wrote a fine biography of Kathleen). All of the originals that made it onto vinyl had fine sound, and even those that have, till now, remained on 78krpm wax were excellent for ttheir time; however, now we have the whole output of one of the greatest altos of the 20th Century in stunning remasters which bring out all the glory of the originals without any of the annoying background noise. This is really 10-star material. Get it while you mayy, for I suspect it won't be around 'forever'. This is a collection of truly HISTORICAL RECORDINGS. This implies the sound quality is generally poor, especially of choral sections.

Two tracks (on CD 2), for some reason, have a format than many players do not recognise (I had to record them and convert to mp3 if I wanted to listen on my mp3 player). Consequently, I would not recommend it to the average music lover (which is why I graded it as only 3 stars, after hesitation). There are two categories for whom it is excellent - those specifically interested in historical recordings (which I am not), and those who are just madly in love with Kathleen Ferrier and her voice (which I am). Digipan Instruction Manual. Oddly enough, the poor sound notwithstanding, her voice seems to come through almost totally unblemished.

Just listening to the recording is a deeply moving experience. I cannot begin to imagine what it was like to attend a live performance. This is really 10-star material. Get it while you mayy, for I suspect it won't be around 'forever'. While some may quail at listening to the olderarrangements of Bach and Gluck here, one must remember that one is listening to the greatest English contralto who has ever lived. Her voice was pure double whipped cream and Stilton, far richer and more emotional than say Janet Baker. There are depths of sadness and melancholie which underlay all her artistry and the huge range a singer had to encompass in the past. The highlights are many.Das Lied von der Erde was released on its own many years ago but now appears with other Mahler. It is a pity that the ealier lied, recorded also with Walter, could not be included, but this is available from other sources.

This set is worth the money just for'Blow the wind Southerly'alone. Kathleen Ferrier was a simply amazing contralto, with expressive control and majesty, a deep understanding of her text, and an unfailing beauty. She could hit her high notes with a tone that never sacrificed gravity, and her middle and low range are nearly unrivaled, even by today's contraltos who have benefited from better recording technology. Her singing style is definitely of the 50's in these recordings; her vibrato is big and lovely, and she is a little less slavish to the score than is in fashion now. These recordings from Decca are warm and radiant, although none of them are new, and you will definitely be able to tell that they are from a different time.

Don't let that stop you. Buku Keperawatan Jiwa Pdf Printer here. If you are a fan of lieder or art songs, a fan of arias, then you may own some of these. If you are a fan of the operatically trained voice and have somehow not stumbled across her before now, prepare yourself for utter loveliness, and then hit play. This set comes at a time that a number of major artists are getting comprehensive boxed sets.
